Going by your logic of Avatar not being an original plot, but having superb graphics, I'd say this Fede Alvarez deserves this film deal. Apparently the budget for this short was only $300 - so if he can do this for that money - imagine what $30 million and some professional guidance will give him!
Unfortunately there is a significant risk that the industry has merely discovered a South American Michael Bay. God knows we don't need another of them.
